How long have you been in business?
SMCS was established in 1974 by the late Richard "Dick" Vigneulle. 2017 marks our 43rd year in Christian education.
What is your primary product or service?
Private, Christian Education for grades K3-12
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Pastor Vigneulle had a vision and passion for Christian education. The school was a ministry of Shades Mountain Independent Church for many years, but has now separated as its own 501c3 nonprofit. The school remains committed to the Vigneulle legacy and has recently announced its new name will be Heritage Christian Academy when doors open at the new location in Riverchase for the 2017-2018 school year. Pastor Vigneulle often quoted the verse from Psalm "Children are a heritage from the Lord, His offspring a reward from Him. The school has chosen to make this verse the official school verse with the opening of Heritage in 2017.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
SMCS provides opportunities for students to excel in the areas of Academics, Arts and Athletics. Our small class sizes allow for individual attention and success. SMCS also provides training and focus on Christian character and spiritual life through an emphasis on missions and service.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have shared facilities with Shades Mountain Independent Church (in Bluff Park) since our doors opened. We will be moving to our NEW location, currently Riverchase Middle School, and will become HERITAGE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY on July 1, 2017. This move will allow us to continue our rich heritage in Christian education with an ideal location in the heart of Riverchase.
